Winter Quarter 2017 has begun! Here's an updated Winter 2017 Course Catalog for reference and circulation.  This is the last week for new registration; all classes will close after the 2nd week of instruction to preserve instruction and classroom integrity.  Any classes without 6 students enrolled after the 2nd week of instruction will be cancelled.

CAA has a new telephone number/phone system.  Please update your contact to CAA's new number:  408-538-3809.  This number will now serve as the attendance/absence line number as well as contacting CAA for all requests and information.

CAA 2017 Quarter Schedule is now Available to give to service Coordinator at the San Andreas Regional Center.  

New Distance Learning Option:  If you are a current or former student, and would like to try out a distance learning class, Skyping into class from the convenience of your home, please email DeAnna Pursai at deanna@collegeofadaptivearts.org for this coming Winter session beginning January 9, 2017 - Distance Learning option classes are marked now on the Winter Quarter schedule.  This opportunity will be free this coming quarter as we work out all logistics/procedures.  This opportunity for distance learning is possible thanks to a wonderful grant from the Adobe Foundation.

* New Updates from School of Communications Director, Danie Weaver:

1.         Thank you to all the families who participated in Toiletries drive and sock, drive.  We could donate at least 50 hygiene kits, and over 300 pairs of socks. Student council donated said items to the Lifemoves Villa in downtown San Jose.  This place caters to helping families and single women who are homeless.
 

2.         Changes to the structure for Lounge Nights 2017.

a.         We will be changing to light snack, unless otherwise specified. Please bring veggie trays, or an bite size appetizer,  or fruit trays, or a bite size dessert. Also make sure your student eats dinner before attending.

b.        Time changes: 7:15-8:45pm with food put out till 8pm. Students will need to be picked up by 9:00pm

c.          We will start serving food at 7:20pm.

d.        Entry fee is $5.00 or a new pair of socks to donate to the homeless
 

3.         Lounge Night’s always needs volunteers. Lounge Nights are always the last Friday of the month, unless otherwise specified. We always need people to help set up, and clean up,  crowd control, help with activities. If you would like to volunteer for multiple lounge nights please let Danie Weaver know.

CAA Mission Moment: Here's a testimony from a new CAA student about how her experience as a student has helped her in other parts of her life:  I wanted to say that i am so glad i am a student here .i feel amazing..it help me on somethings like being patient and not stressing out or getting over welm it help me at my job and other things. It make me more calm on thing.dance class make me relax to.it help me to be more confident and not worry how i perform as long as i am trying. I have amazing teachers that get to learn from. There amazing students to. This quater i have to do 4 solos one for tues ballet class and cheer to and grad class and bye bye birdy to.this will be a challege for me but i know i can do it.i rember miss bella alway reminds us students the 3 p .passion and patients and persver. I keep reminding my self at work.

2.         Changes to the structure for Lounge Nights 2017.

a.         We will be changing to light snack, unless otherwise specified. Please bring veggie trays, or an bite size appetizer,  or fruit trays, or a bite size dessert. Also make sure your student eats dinner before attending.

b.        Time changes: 7:15-8:45pm with food put out till 8pm. Students will need to be picked up by 9:00pm

c.          We will start serving food at 7:20pm.

d.        Entry fee is $5.00 or a new pair of socks to donate to the homeless
 

3.         Lounge Night’s always needs volunteers. Lounge Nights are always the last Friday of the month, unless otherwise specified. We always need people to help set up, and clean up,  crowd control, help with activities. If you would like to volunteer for multiple lounge nights please let Danie Weaver know.

CAA Mission Moment: Here's a testimony from a new CAA student about how her experience as a student has helped her in other parts of her life:  I wanted to say that i am so glad i am a student here .i feel amazing..it help me on somethings like being patient and not stressing out or getting over welm it help me at my job and other things. It make me more calm on thing.dance class make me relax to.it help me to be more confident and not worry how i perform as long as i am trying. I have amazing teachers that get to learn from. There amazing students to. This quater i have to do 4 solos one for tues ballet class and cheer to and grad class and bye bye birdy to.this will be a challege for me but i know i can do it.i rember miss bella alway reminds us students the 3 p .passion and patients and persver. I keep reminding my self at work.

3.  If you or someone you know would like to make a tax donation before the year-end, College of Adaptive Arts is a 501c3 charitable organization.  Our small and mighty College keeps growing because of the meaningful investments of local community leaders and international donors alike.  All funds toward building this educational model to allow adults with special eneds to realize their full potential and become successful contributing citizens.

5. Updated Parent/Guardian/CareProvider Policies are now available for review & signature. A live signature needs to be returned by the 2nd week of the Winter Quarter.

7. We have a new Volunteer Coordinator, Sharon Lea, who is going to help us grow our onboarding and training process for our ever-growing number of volunteers. 3. Winter Quarter Course Schedule is Now Out.  There may be last minute updates/edits this week - watch for email updates.  Registration begins this Saturday for currently registered students.  Winter Quarter 2017 begins Monday, January 9, 2017.

4. CAA Salutes Executive Board Member Fleet Easton: While the CAA graduation ceremonies where happening in Northern California, CAA Executive Board Member Fleet Easton received a Star on the Promenade in Palm Springs. CAA Student Ambassador Trevor Lucken was there to represent. We salute Fleet Easton for his exquisite artistic contributions and huge heart for the College of Adaptive Arts community - promoting an innovative and equitable model of lifelong education!

14. New Updates from School of Communications Director, Danie Weaver: 

1. Thank you to all the families who participated in Toiletries drive and sock, drive. We could donate at least 50 hygiene kits, and over 300 pairs of socks. Student council donated said items to the Lifemoves Villa in downtown San Jose. This place caters to helping families and single women who are homeless.

2. Changes to the structure for Lounge Nights 2017.

    a. We will be changing to light snack, unless otherwise specified. Please bring veggie trays, or an bite size appetizer, or fruit trays, or a bite size dessert. Also make sure your student eats dinner before attending.

    b. Time changes: 7:15-8:45pm with food put out till 8pm. Students will need to be picked up by 9:00pm

    c  We will start serving food at 7:20pm.

    d. Entry fee is $5.00 or a new pair of socks to donate to the homeless

3  Lounge Night’s always needs volunteers. Lounge Nights are always the last Friday of the month, unless otherwise specified. We always need people to help set up, and clean up, crowd control, help with activities. If you would like to volunteer for multiple lounge nights please let Danie Weaver know.

6. 2017 Quarter Date Schedule is now Available to give to service Coordinator at the San Andreas Regional Center. The Winter Quarter Schedule of Classes will be available shortly as well as information regarding current student registration window for the Winter Quarter.

7. Fall Tuition is Now Due: If paying on a payment plan, or if your student has taken more classes over the approved number from SARC, tuition is now due. Please look for an updated invoice from DeAnna this week. We'd like to have all past balances paid before Winter Quarter registration begins.

We are hosting a Showcase event on February 11, Any Student who is currently taking a communication class this quarter. The communication classes are: Reading Partner, Poetry, Spanish and Cultural Studies, Reading and Writing Lab, Sign Language, Speaking With Confidence, Student Council Leadership. Any current students who would like to share something please Danie Weaver know, so she can work with them. All showcase piece just needs to be approved by Danie. There will also be class demonstrations as well.

For the graduates Katie will be contacting all graduates to schedule a cap and gown appointment time slot for Thursday, November 3rd from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm with Amy. The choir will be fitted for their choir gown during class this Wednesday and Thursday during class. If the graduates and choir members can't make it at that time Katie will be happy to schedule an alternate appointment date.

7The Honorable San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo will be the Keynote Speaker at the College of Adaptive Arts Graduation Ceremony/Holiday Concert Choir, Saturday, December 10, 2-5pm, Hammer Theatre in downtown San Jose. Please send a thank you note to our wonderful mayor thanking him for his steadfast support in believing in this new model of education for adults with special needs.

8. New Updates from School of Communications Director, Danie Weaver:
--NEW DATE: January 21 Team Building event at History Park from 11-2.
Students must be accompanied by a caregiver. All Students council members past and present are invited to join us. More Details to follow.
--Communication Students: We are hosting a Showcase event on February 11,
Any Student who is currently taking a communication class this quarter. The communication classes are: Reading Partner, Poetry, Spanish and Cultural Studies, Reading and Writing Lab, Sign Language, Speaking With Confidence, Student Council Leadership. Any current students who would like to share something please Danie Weaver know, so she can work with them. All showcase piece just needs to be approved by Danie. There will also be class demonstrations as well.

10. Abilities Expo is coming back to San Jose this November to the San Jose Convention Center!! Here is the flyer for circulation for the Abilities Expo coming to town November 18-20 at the San Jose Convention Center.  Please reachout to any artists with differing abilities who may be interestd in selling their wares this weekend.

11. A long-standing Community Partner of CAA, Dr. Yvette Tazeau, owner of Tikal Bay Tek, is leading Workplace Social Skills Training Sessions - for both individual and group sessions.  Please see Workplace Social Skills Training Flyer for more information.

2. A true thanks to Professor Isabella with Latizmo Productions who produced a fabulous Thriller workshop performance for the CAA College students.  Thanks to all who came out and enjoyed the performance.  Look for more opportunities to create and contribute in the future with Latizmo Productions.

For the graduates Katie will be contacting all graduates to schedule a cap and gown appointment time slot for Thursday, November 3rd from 3:00 pm-5:00 pm with Amy. The choir will be fitted for their choir gown during class this Wednesday and Thursday during class. If the graduates and choir members can't make it at that time Katie will be happy to schedule an alternate appointment date.

8The Honorable San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo will be the Keynote Speaker at the College of Adaptive Arts Graduation Ceremony/Holiday Concert Choir, Saturday, December 10, 2-5pm, Hammer Theatre in downtown San Jose. Please send a thank you note to our wonderful mayor thanking him for his steadfast support in believing in this new model of education for adults with special needs.

9.  New Community Performance Slated for Children's Sing-Along Songs Touring Troupe: Thursday, November 16, 1 - 1:30pm, Casa de Mir Montessori School, Campbell.  Look for more detailed information coming tis week by Professor De.

11. Abilities Expo is coming back to San Jose this November to the San Jose Convention Center!! Here is the flyer for circulation for the Abilities Expo coming to town November 18-20 at the San Jose Convention Center.  Please reachout to any artists with differing abilities who may be interestd in selling their wares this weekend.

12. A long-standing Community Partner of CAA, Dr. Yvette Tazeau, owner of Tikal Bay Tek, is leading Workplace Social Skills Training Sessions - for both individual and group sessions.  Please see Workplace Social Skills Training Flyer for more information.

14. Calling Artists with Differing Abilities: CAA facilitates the Artists Market at the Abilities Expo coming back to the San Jose Convention Center Friday November 18 - Sunday, November 20. 15. Parent/Care Provider Policies: Each calendar year & when any updates occur, CAA needs to have a signed copy of the Parent/Care Provider policies on file. If you signed a copy for the Spring Quarter, you need not re-sign. All new families and outstanding spring quarter families need to have a signed copy returned by Friday, July 15. 18Seeking Community Venues to Perform: We are also seeking new community venues to take our multiple theatre troupes out to perform and contribute their artistic creations to the community. 24. CAA Mission Moment: The CAA Latizmo dance troupe received a sincere thanks from the San Jose State University International House Pancake Fundraiser planning team.  They said that the Latizmo dancers were one of the highlights from the day. :)
