Welcome to the Workforce Development Division!

Our workforce development programs are designed to empower students and individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences. These programs offer a unique opportunity for CAA students to gain practical, hands-on workplace experience through shadowing, assisting staff, and on-the-job training. These programs are an excellent pathway for students to build valuable skills, expand their professional networks, and set themselves up for future career success.

Workforce Development Programs

Cardinal Apprentice Program (CAP)

The Cardinal Apprentice Program(CAP) is now accepting applications for the Summer and Fall cohorts. CAA students can apply and participate in the CAP. This pathway will provide opportunities to gain valuable workplace skills through shadowing and assisting CAA staff and on-the-job training. Graduates of the apprentice program can be put on the substitute list at CAA or become Associate Professors.

Ideal CAP Candidate Criteria

Pre-requisites:
Introduction to Employment Skills class, AND
3 other courses that support your workforce goals (i.e. Basic Computer Skills, theater, art, etc.)
Must have received CAA Undergraduate diploma
3 references from a CAA Professor or Director of a School of Study
Must complete application process, include resume
Able to commit to work 6 hours per week for 6 months
Must demonstrate understanding of ARTS Behavior Model
Must demonstrate motivation and commitment to learning
Must demonstrate ability to perform specific tasks related to apprentice program
I.e. Ability to work independently with supervision
Demonstrated ability to communicate through email. Comfortable using other communication technology.
Interested in and comfortable with learning new business technologies through steps that set them up for success (like Canva, Monday.com, Zoom, Google Workplace, etc.)
Must commit to following ARTS Model for Staff
Must pass background check and TB Test

Empower Inclusion Apprenticeship Program (EIAP)

Empower Inclusion Apprenticeship Program provides opportunities for West Valley Community College students to gain essential skills related to becoming a teacher's aide or office administrator.

Our program is committed to fostering inclusivity by offering unique pathways to those from underserved populations. Whether individuals are navigating disabilities, re-entering the workforce after an extended absence, facing economic disadvantages, or belonging to other marginalized groups, Empower Inclusion strives to create a supportive and empowering environment.

Through specialized training modules, mentorship programs, and hands-on experiences, our apprenticeship initiative aims to equip participants with the expertise needed for success in these critical roles. By prioritizing diversity and inclusion, Empower Inclusion not only enriches the educational landscape but also contributes to building a workforce that reflects the strength and resilience of our entire community.

Ideal Empower Inclusion Candidate Criteria

Current West Valley student
Must demonstrate motivation and a commitment to learning
Must go through an interview process
Must demonstrate ability to learn and perform specific tasks related to the apprenticeship, such as:
Special projects
Manage Badging process
Some Site Manager duties
Daily site processes
Data entry, filing
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must pass background check
Must commit to the 2-year (2000 hour) program
Must have at least 3 referrals from a professor
